2010 – Denis Magotiaux
Denis has been passionate about volunteering ever since he moved to Morden in 1984. He and his wife, Laurie, and their four daughters (Chelsea, Dana, Katelyn, and Krista) have a long history of working together to build our community, whether it be through helping a neighbor with yard work or hosting foreign exchange students.
According to Denis’ nominators, Basil Agnew and Clare Agnew, “The more people you talk to, the more you find out what a wide range of activity his volunteering embraces.” Denis has been involved with the Morden Handivan, Canadian Blood Services, Morden Minor Baseball, the Morden Fire Department, Corn & Apple Festival, and the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
As part of this recognition, Denis was invited to grant $1,000 from the Morden Area Foundation to a charity of his choice. He chose Kidsport, a charity that provides financial support for children that would otherwise be unable to play organized sports, and Denis requested that this donation be made in memory of his friend, Wayne Rankin.
The MAF is proud to bring highlight the efforts of volunteers like Denis and Ron, as donated time is just as important as donated money in building a strong, healthy community.
