2013 – Wayne Kroetsch

The Morden Area Foundation is pleased to announce that Wayne Kroetsch has been selected as the Outstanding Community Volunteer of the Year. The award recognizes someone who dedicates their time, and themselves, to the community. The Foundation will be hosting an afternoon reception in Wayne’s honour from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on November 30th, 2014 at the Access Event Centre in Morden.

To say Wayne defines volunteerism could be seen as a gross understatement. Kroetsch’s long resume includes Chair of Tabor Fundraising Committee, Tabor Home Board Member, Chair of action committee for Tabor, Child and Family services board member, Chair of Morden/Winkler Youth Justice Committee, Chair of Morden Police Advocacy Group, Chair of Healthy Child Manitoba for Central Region, member of Morden Healthy Minds School Breakfast Program committee and many more.

Upon learning of his selection, Kroetsch said, “I am filled with gratitude to the Morden Area Foundation for considering me worthy of this award. Morden has always been known for its abundance of volunteers who demonstrate a culture of caring for our community. I feel very honoured and privileged to be recognized for my volunteer contributions.” He didn’t hesitate in including others in his honour though, “I feel the need to share this honour with members of the committees that I have chaired or served on during so many years as well to all who volunteer. They are all deserving of recognition.”

Kroetsch is proud of volunteering but admits he gets something out of it too. “There are benefits to volunteering. The first and greatest benefit is to support a community need. The spirit of volunteerism provides the volunteer with an opportunity to work as a team, meet new people, make new friends, work toward a common goal and just a good feeling. The best way of gaining happiness in life is reaching out to assist with the happiness of others.”
