The Morden Area Foundation is continuing to grow quickly! The Foundation received a boost in December 2012 with the news that the Burns Family Fund, through the Winnipeg Foundation, has approved a grant and issued a challenge.
The family of Jim Burns, a former board member of Great West Life and Investors Group, has donated $10,000 to boost the MAF’s scholarship fund. They will add another $10,000 if the Foundation can raise local dollars to match it.
A life long Winnipeger and a noted philanthropist, Mr. Burns has given time as well as money to many worthy causes. A founding director of the Manitoba Centennial Corporation and the Manitoba Museum, he is a Director of Centre Venture Development Corporation and a driving force on the Board of Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation.
We have already received substantial support from local donors towards the Burns scholarship challenge, but we haven’t quite reached our goal. If you are interested in supporting our scholarship fund and doubling your donation at the same time, please contact one of our board members. You can also make an online donation through the link on the left or mail a cheque to the Foundation office.
The MAF Scholarship Fund has supported an annual award since 1997, and in that time over $15,000 has been granted from the earnings of this fund, supporting some of Morden’s brightest students.
