2023 Power of the Purse Brunch

Celebrating the 8th Anniversary of the Power of the Purse Brunch

You are invited to an IN PERSON event with MC Jayme Giesbrecht. You will enjoy visiting with the ladies at your table and a FREE delicious brunch by Exceptional Thymes Catering while you listen to three charities make a presentation on their specific project, and gift $100 to the charity closest to your heart.

This event will immediately raise $10,000.  Each of the three charities will be granted the amount of monies according to the choices of the participating women. PLUS, upon confirmation of 100 women participating, the Morden Area Foundation (MAF) will grant $5,000 to help grow the Power of the Purse Fund.  The participating charities are kept a secret and will be announced at the event.  Each charity has been approved by the Power of the Purse Committee and MAF Board and is a local registered charity within CRA rules.

Tickets:          $100 contact the Morden Area Foundation Office prior to the event. Tickets are not sold at the door. $80 tax receipt will be issued.

Deadline to register:  Tuesday, February 28, 2023

No paper tickets are issued. Please call or email the MAF office to register. Cheques may be mailed or dropped off at the office or you can pay by E-transfer by Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Cheques are made payable to the Morden Area Foundation, 13 – 379 Stephen Street, Morden, MB R6M 0G8 Registration payment MUST be made prior to the event. Tax receipts will be ready for pick up at the event. Voting process will be announced.

Doors open at 9am, program begins at 9:30am, brunch at 10am, presentations at 10:30am, program completed by 11:30am.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND but still wish to participate, please advise at registration.  An email will be sent to you the afternoon of the event which will advise of the three charities presenting and describe their projects. You will have the opportunity to submit your vote via email no later than Monday, March 6, 2023 12 noon.

Community Services Recovery Fund

Morden Area Foundation takes part in the Community Services Recovery Fund – a $400 million investment in charities and non-profits

Now more than ever, charities and non-profits are playing a key role in addressing persistent and complex social problems faced by all Canadians. The Community Services Recovery Fund is a $400 million investment from the Government of Canada to support charities and non-profits as they focus on how to adapt their organizations for pandemic recovery.

The Morden Area Foundation is proud to be working with community foundations across Canada as part of the Community Services Recovery Fund. This fund is a collaboration between Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada, and United Way Centraide Canada to provide funding to Community Service Organizations including non-profit organizations, Indigenous Governing Bodies and Registered Charities located in Canada. The Community Services Recovery Fund responds to what charities and non-profits need right now and supports organizations as they adapt to the long-term impacts of the pandemic.

South Central Regional Library 2022 Grant for Storage Shed

South Central Regional Library $1,500 Book Storage Shed

SCRL stores books all year long for their annual book sale, however, due to COVID their annual book sale was cancelled.  SCRL now hosts several small book sales throughout the year.  Nonetheless, people drop off books and more are collected throughout the year therefore more space was needed for storage.  This new shed now houses the books that are collected, sorted, recorded, boxes, and stored while waiting to be brought out for future book sales.  Thank you SCRL for continuing your book sales fundraising program and giving the public the opportunity to share the stories, history, and education these books offer. Left to Right – Board members Oleksandra (Sasha) Annamuradova and Phyllis Loewen.  Due to poor weather conditions, SCRL board members and director were unable to attend to accept.

MAF Citizen of Distinction Award 2022 Nominations now being accepted

Morden Area Foundation Citizen of Distinction 2022 Award nominations are now being accepted to recognize and honour, on an annual basis, citizens who have a strong commitment to making the City of Morden and area a better place to live, visit and play through their long-term commitment by service and excellence in leadership in either volunteering and/or work employment.
