Robert grew up in Morden and from the early age of 14, knew he wanted to be an accountant. He pursued his goals and graduated in 1989 from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree. He immediately began public practice in Winnipeg and worked as a senior accountant with a national firm in their audit practice.
In 1993, he returned to his hometown with his wife Monica and two daughters, Jessica and Alayna, and their son Riley was born a few years later. Robert received his professional designation in 1997 and joined Gislason Targownik Peters (GTP) team. He was invited to partnership in 2006. Over the years Rob has served as treasurer on numerous local boards. From 2004 to 2012 he served as a member of the CGA Manitoba Public Practice Committee, the CGA Practice Review Committee and later chaired the committee.
In 2012, he was appointed to the Board of Governors for the CGA Association of Manitoba where he served until 2015, helping to guide the Association through the amalgamation of the three Canadian professional accounting designations to become Chartered Professional Accountants. Robert immediately continued to serve with CPA Manitoba as a member of the Practice Inspection Committee, a role in which he is still active today. Rob was recognized in 2018 for making a significant contribution to enhancing the reputation and credibility of the profession and was awarded a Fellow of the CPA and authorized to use the FCPA designation.
Most recently, Rob joined the Morden Area Foundation Board as Treasurer in June 2020. He’s very excited to work with the organization to help move it forward as it continues to grow and support the community. When he’s out of the office you’ll either find Rob on the golf course or digging rocks with his tractor on his acreage just outside of Morden. He has played many years in the Minnewasta Golf Club Tuesday Night Men’s League, winning the 2012 league championship with his brother. Robert is also a noisy Winnipeg Jets fanatic and a true Blue Bombers fan, with a license plate to prove it.
Phyllis has lived in Morden for the past 32 years. She works remotely from home in the Medical Transcription field. As a Morden resident, she has learned about the great work of the Morden Area Foundation through various community initiatives funded by the Morden Area Foundation. Phyllis joined the MAF board in late April 2021, has attended meetings for the previous year and is definitely enjoying being an active participant on the Board. She plans to continue to give back to the community through her active participation on the Morden Area Foundation Board.
Allison Braun was born and raised in Morden, MB. I am married to Reg Braun and together we own and operate Gallery Wealth Management. We have a son, a daughter, a son-in-law and two teenage grandchildren children that all live in Winnipeg. Thankfully, they love to come home to the country for a small city experience in our beautiful community.
Some of my favorite past times are spent with my camera, gardening and traveling. My passions are deeply rooted in our community. Volunteering is an effective way to stay connected with our city, its people and a wonderful way to show appreciation for everything we available to us here in Morden.
I joined the Morden Area Foundation board in the summer of 2015. I became the chairperson in 2019. This board is one of the most exciting, rewarding volunteer positions I have ever held. Giving back to this amazing place we call home through philanthropy and leadership has been an experience that has really opened my eyes to the needs, values and beauty of Morden and Area.
